THE GAME HAS CHANGED.

These Z-Mech walkthroughs, tutorials, and source files are no longer supported. Updates required significant revisions to the structure of the skeletal rig, rendering all source files and animations incompatible with Unreal Engine version 4.25 and newer.

Feel free to explore or download things from the following links, but they might not work as expected, especially if trying to get them to work in Unreal with the Z-Mech Robot Giant asset.

What is the Z-Mech Project?

Z-Mech is a by-product of a half year of studying next-gen video game art techniques for Unreal 4. The name "Z-Mech" comes from its original purpose as a practice model in ZBrush. It was intended as simply a portfolio piece, but once it was finished it turned out to have considerable potential as a training tool for animators and new game artists exploring Unreal 4. Combined with the cutting-edge power that Unreal Engine 4 places into anyone's hands, the Z-Mech project can be a great way to not only have a professionally-concepted model in your games, but also to have free access to the "behind-the-scenes" files you can use to create your own animation sequences in 3ds Max!

If you're just getting started, this is where you want to be! A giant robot mech will be running around your worlds in no time!

Any humanoid animation you can use on the standard Unreal template character can also be used on the Z-Mech.

Download the TOTALLY FREE source files for the Z-Mech character! No purchase or registration required. Just download and start animating!
